YouTube Premium Lite: With a focus on ad-free podcasts and how-to videos, YouTube may launch a new affordable membership package soon. Regrettably, this subscription does not include music videos; you will still encounter advertisements on those.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that viewers who interact with material outside of music constitute this subscription plan’s intended demographic, providing a more straightforward and reasonably priced choice. “We have been testing a new YouTube Premium offering with most videos ad-free in several markets as part of our commitment to provide users more choice and flexibility,” a YouTube spokesman said. With the help of our partners, we hope to increase this service to even more consumers in the future.

The Verge found that testing for the feature started months ago in foreign countries. The move follows the previous ad-free Premium Lite trial in Europe, which ran from 2021 to 2023 before being shelved.

Given that more people are gravitating toward podcasts and there are several venues to pick from, the move is a calculated action. The change will revolutionize how YouTubers make money, as their primary source of income typically comes from ad revenue. The widespread adoption of this model will lead to an increase in subscription-based income.

Spotify recently took a similar action, removing dynamic advertisements from video content for members in particular areas. Despite over 70% of qualified creators opting in, many prominent podcasters remain hesitant, uncertain if the new model aligns with their current income streams. With its less expensive strategy, YouTube may be able to keep the viewership more involved in ad-free broadcasts instead of turning to rivals like Spotify, a report claims.

When should we expect?

With debut appearances in the US, Australia, Germany, and Thailand, the “Premium Lite” plan will first set foot here, while specifics on price are unknown.
