Ayushman Bharat Scheme: The Delhi government headed by Rekha Gupta has put its best foot forward to implement the Centre’s flagship medical scheme – the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) in the national capital. The sources said that the Delhi government is expected to initial a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare concerning the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission on April 05.

“Delhi government is expected to duration to sign the MoU under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) Scheme along with National Health Authority comes under Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on April 05.”

What is PM-ABHIM?

PM-ABHIM is a scheme of the central government which is meant to enhance a positive input into the public health system to improve management of pandemics, outbreaks and disasters. This also aims to upgrade healthcare system throughout the system such as primary, secondary, and tertiary.

The PM ABHIM scheme in Budget 21-22 was announced in February 2021 for operationalization of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Package for the health sector as was declared.

The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that both urban and rural communities are self-reliant in the management of such pandemics or health crises by addressing important missing elements of infrastructure, surveillance, and health research.

Addressing a press conference, Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government will implement the Centre’s flagship scheme in the national capital. This was a pre-poll promise of the BJP, which had targeted the AAP government for not implementing the scheme.

“In the first Cabinet meeting, we discussed and passed two agendas – to implement in Delhi the Ayushman Bharat scheme with Rs 5 lakhs top up and tabling of 14 CAG reports in the first seating of the Assembly. We will fulfil all the commitments that we have made to the people.” Rekha Gupta said.

She said the Delhi government will pay for the top-up and will sign a MoU with the Centre.
